Thin, glossy, black, bladed crystals with feathery terminations line cavities within brown iron oxide, but a little massive grey manganese oxides also coat the iron oxides. These cavities extend around both sides of this small cabinet-sized specimen. The black bladed crystals were originally labelled as Manganite, but may well actually be Pyrolusite but have not been analysed. Although currently labelled as Roßbach mine (Rossbach mine) there is the possibility that it is a very rare specimen from the Louisenglück mine at Niederhonnefeld, Straßenhaus about 9 miles to the southwest. This is because it is accompanied by an old Albin Jahn (1886-1946) dealer label dating it to the early 20th century and recording the locality as "Grube Luise by Neuwied".
