A classic specimen of Manganite from the type location of Ilfeld, Germany. Stout black prismatic crystals with bright metallic lustre have grown from the Manganite/Baryte matrix in various orientations. Many crystals measure approximately 7 mm wide, and up to 1.6 cm in length. White Baryte crystals are intergrown with the Manganite, adding a nice colour contrast. The specimen comes with a white Richard W. Barstow label from his private collection. Barstow was of course, the leading British mineral dealer during the late 1970s and early 1980s when he died at a very young age.
