Manganite from Ilfeld in the Harz district of Germany is regarded as one of the world's most iconic minerals and this specimen is a great example of this classic material. The specimen is composed entirely of Manganite with the top surface covered with euhedral (fully developed) crystals, typically of between 1 to 1.5 cm long and 3 to 6 mm broad. The crystals are jet-black and of a very bright metallic lustre, with vertically striated prism faces and scale-like patterned, flat pinacoid terminations. A beautiful and classic specimen of Manganite from Ilfeld in Germany.
