The huge open pit at the Mashamba West copper mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has produced many fine mineral specimens over the years and the specimens featuring the combination of Malachite with Calcite are highly sought. This lovely miniature has a well crystallised Malachite ball measuring 4 x 3 cm in association with a small group of transparent to translucent nail-head Calcite crystals. The Malachite forms delicate acicular crystals which appear dark bottle green when clustered yet, where light passes through the balls, peripheral facing crystals glow bright leafy emerald green. It's a great combination of Malachite and Calcite from Mashamba West and certainly one for all who so appreciate such African treasures.
