Platy sprays of crude Malachite crystals richly coat a rectangular block of Quartz veinstone from the 90 fathom Level mine dump at Roughton Gill, Caldbeck Fells, Cumbria, England. The Malachite varies between silky emerald green and dark sea green and contrasts nicely against the rusty, limonitic surface coating of the Quartz. Although this small cabinet specimen would win no beauty prizes, it’s a great example of Malachite from Roughton Gill. This specimen was collected by David Hacker in 1984 and is accompanied with his collection label plus the last owner’s highly detailed label.
