Malachite is one of the few minerals to display chatoyency, or the cat's eye effect, but actually even very few Malachite specimens demonstrate this. This superb, bubbly, botryoidal crust of deep forest-green velvety Malachite on a thin vein of white Quartz from Mindingi mine in Kambove District, DR Congo does, and to great effect. The individual botryoids shimmer with a great silky to resinous lustre as the specimen is turned in the light and are in wonderful condition, making a superb showy display. A remarkably pretty Malachite, even for DR Congo which has produced some of the world's finest examples of this copper carbonate species.
