The mines of Cornwall are not renowned for their Malachite, so this miniature of botryoidal mounds densely covering and pervading a dense gossan matrix is a particularly good example. It comes from the Mike Brooke Collection and has been labelled Wheal Phoenix, but with a question mark. I would like to suggest it could be from the United Mines in the parish of Gwennap; however, it has been labelled as received from Mike’s collection, so as not to muddy the waters further. I have no doubt a specific mine could be attributed by a gathering of experts in all things Cornish mineral related. I know you are out there! This aside, it is a great miniature of Cornish Malachite displaying various shades of peppermint to deep emerald green.
