Ludlamite is an extremely rare hydrated iron phosphate and of the few notable localities in North America the Blackbird Mine Complex in Idaho is leagues ahead of the rest in terms of quality. All the best specimens were recovered during the 1950s and 1960s and it is getting harder and harder to find any available on the mineral market nowadays. This larger thumbnail specimen is from David Hardman's collection and was obtained by him back in the 1960s or 1970s. It shows the deeper, more murky-green coloured form of Ludlamite which was sometimes found there, as glossy wedge-shaped crystals to 3.5 mm on edge.
