Tsumeb mine in Namibia is one of very few places in the world where large crystals of the rare lead sulphate carbonate hydroxide are found. However, rather than being individual euhedral (well-formed) crystals, they are almost always flat, selenite-like, cleavage fragments, but on a scale that is remarkable for such a rare species. This pure, colourless, to faintly greyish-cream, translucent to transparent crystal fragment, with obvious cleavage planes visible, is absolutely classic for Tsumeb, and at 5.7 cm in length is a really large size for such a rarity. Ex Kessler Collection.
