A 2.5 cm diameter resin mounted polished block containing several grains, to 2 mm across, containing Kostovite and Native Gold from the famous Golden Mile mines at Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Kostovite is an extremely rare copper gold telluride known from a small number of gold deposits worldwide. Like all polished sections this is designed to be viewed and studied optically, in this case with a reflected light microscope. However, polished sections like this can also be used in Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM's) where precise chemical data can be obtained for study and identification using a microprobe. There are very few images of Kostovite available online indicating its rarity. This is certainly one for the dedicated rare species enthusiast, or for an academic institution wanting study material.
