The manganese-tungsten oxide H'bnerite forms high quality crystals in the tungsten deposits close to the town of Huamachuco in the Sanchez Carrion Province of Peru. As is often the case in Peru, the mineralisation occurs within the Andes Mountain range and so the mine is at an altitude of around 4500 m (14, 750 ft). This superb miniature is a sculptural mix of black metallic H'bnerite crystals and elegant, acicular colourless Quartz crystals, all emerging from a thin plate of Quartz. The latter is entirely hidden by crystallised H'bnerite and Quartz, even over its base. The specimen is dominated by one large H'bnerite crystal measuring 4.4 x 2.5 x 0.9 cm, with vertically straited faces and a crisp, horizontally bevelled termination. A showy specimen and fine example of H'bnerite and Quartz from Mundo Nuevo, Peru.
