You might think that something as chemically straightforward as hydrated zinc phosphate would be extremely common, but far from it. Despite the first discovery of Hopeite having been made two centuries ago in Belgium, the number of world occurrences is still small, and those where large visible crystals have been found are almost non-existent, even including the Type Locality. Indeed, the finest Hopeite crystals known, are those that were found at Kabwe mine (Broken Hill mine) in Zambia in the early- to mid-20th century. This miniature-sized specimen from Kabwe mine is very well crystallized, with abundant sharp, orange-brown translucent crystals upon a little matrix. A lovely, now rarely seen, Hopeite.
