This specimen is perfect for anyone wanting a dramatic, large display specimen of a British classic mineral. The West Cumbrian iron mines are renowned the world over for their stunning botryoidal specimens of Hematite, known as "Kidney Ore". Often, they were just labelled as from "Cumbria", or "West Cumbrian iron mines" but this superb 16 kg specimen has very precise provenance to William Pit No. 1 at Hodbarrow mine - perhaps the most famous of all of the iron mines because of the stories of mining out under the sea/estuary. Texturally, this specimen, like many of these botryoidal Hematites is extremely tactile, capable of being on open display with regular handling, or touching, not damaging the surface. The botryoids are quite closely spaced compared with some specimens from the Cumbrian mines which I feel adds to its character. Yes, it is big, and heavy, but it is a lovely specimen, full of stories, and would make the perfect centre-piece to a display gallery of British minerals. Due to its weight there is likely to be an additional charge for postage/shipping.
