A superb large thumbnail Hematite forms multiple-stacked, intense steely-black hexagonal plates with a bright, mirror-like lustre. The specimen is from the Alpine-type fissures which occur in the Permian and Carboniferous rocks of this area. The compound set of hexagonal plates measures 1.7 x 1.5 x 0.9 cm and perches nicely on a matrix of glassy translucent Adularia crystals, a variety of Orthoclase Feldspar.
