A fabulous group of mirror-bright, hexagonal plates of Hematite forming stacked clusters to over 2 cm thick, from Ouro Preto within the Iron Quadrangle of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is difficult to measure the plates over which other clusters are stacked, but an estimate of the largest is about 5.5 cm between its hexagonal flats. The clusters grow parallel and at angles to each other. The smaller stacks have concave faces forming iron-rose type structures. The Hematite is jet black yet appears bright silver over many areas because of its high reflectivity. Micro-crystals of curved platy white Calcite are sparsely dusted over the Hematite's surface. A stunning Hematite in large well formed crystals and 'Hematite roses' from Ouro Preto.
