Jeffrey mine at Asbestos (now named Val-des-Sources) in Qu'bec, Canada, was a chrysotile asbestos mine with its complex geology giving rise to over one hundred mineral species with many occurring as high-end specimens. One of its most well known minerals is Hessonite, an orange, gemmy variety of Grossular Garnet. This thumbnail specimen is a gorgeous example, dominated by a 1.4 x 1.1 x about 0.6 cm crystal of transparent barley sugar orange. This is surrounded by several smaller similar crystals on a tiny light grey granular matrix.
