A superbly crystallised thumbnail of the rare lead-arsenic sulphosalt Gratonite from its type locality at the Excelsior mine at Cerro de Pasco, in western central Peru. A radiating cluster of trigonal terminated Gratonite crystals sit on a fine-grained metallic matrix of massive Gratonite together with a small sliver of host rock. The Gratonite is a darkish, silver lead-grey with some crystal faces displaying a light coffee-brown patina. This s a lovely specimen of very well formed Gratonite crystals from the Excelsior mine in Peru and a relatively rare species for the systematic collector.
