This lustrous Goethite miniature is from a locality in Cornwall which I have never before encountered. Porthgwarra is a tiny cove at the very southern tip of the Cornish peninsula, between Land's End to the west and Porthcurno to the east. For those more familiar with Penzance as a geographical reference, Porthgwarra is 16.5 km (10.3) miles to the southwest. The specimen is a solid mass of jet-black Goethite with a slightly rusty orange flat base rising to bubbly, lustrous metallic botryoidal mounds at one end. Surrounding the botryoidal surfaces, the internal radial structure of the Goethite can be studied. A nice Goethite from a most uncommon Cornish locality complete with the collector's own label.
