Restormel Royal Iron Mine gained its 'Royal' title following a visit in 1846 by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. It was a old mine then because we know Philip Rashleigh obtained fine Goethite specimen from here in 1797, although it was named Trinity mine at this time. This large miniature/small cabinet specimen is exceptional for its superb acicular, lustrous, black Goethite crystals which cover much of the surface area of a mixed Quartz and massive Goethite matrix. When examined under low magnification, only a few crystals show any sign of damage out of what must be many hundreds, if not thousands! The specimen is accompanied with an old Wilh. Anderberg (Stockholm) label.
