A magnificent crystal of Galena measuring 4.0 x 3.3 x 1.8 cm rests on a bed of lustrous deep tan Siderite crystals, with both the Galena and Siderite partly overgrown with 3 to 5 mm milky Calcite crystals. This classic specimen is from the Pfaffenberg mine at Neudorf in the Harzgerode mining district of Harz and is typical of the early specimens found here with this combination of species. The Galena crystal has predominantly smooth faces, occasionally showing a little natural etching as pit marks and appears to be twinned, due to the presence of re-entrant angles between certain faces. An excellent Galena with Siderite and Calcite from the ancient Pfaffenberg silver-lead mine.
