It is always a curiosity that despite one of the principal ores at Tsumeb being Galena, good crystals were always scarce. Given this mine is one of the most famous in the world for its wonderfully crystallised specimens, Galena was one of its exceptions! Hence, Tsumeb Galena crystals are not frequently seen for sale. This is a great miniature displaying good crystal form together with globular Smithsonite crystals tinged grey with Galena inclusions. The largest Galena crystal on this specimen measures 1.7 cm wide and all show characteristic, naturally etched surfaces with feint striations crossing the prism faces. The general form is cuboctahedral, often elongated on one axis.
