Although abundant as one of the principle ores at Tsumeb, Galena occurring as collectable crystals is surprisingly rare. This large thumbnail is a beautiful example, dominated by one large, roughly 2.0 x 2.0 x 1.5 cm cuboctahedral dull lead-grey equant crystal with a smaller, similar crystal attached to one side. In keeping with crystallised Galena from Tsumeb, all of the faces are striated, a feature probably caused by lamellar twinning. Small, 2 to 3 mm, slightly pink curved rhombohedral Smithsonite crystals are scattered around the periphery of the Galena. A great specimen.
