Although the Heights Mine, between Westgate and Eastgate in Weardale, England, is famous for its Fluorite, well crystallised Galena was also present, but is less seldom seen in collections. This is a very fine example of complex cuboctahedral Galena crystals from a few mm up to 2 cm across on an etched creamy Calcite with associated sea-green cubic Fluorite crystals. The Galena generally appears dull lead grey because of the roughly textured faces, but individual faces, when lit correctly, do have a reasonably bright silver metallic lustre and silky texture. An excellent Galena with quite gemmy small Fluorite cubes of typically 2 to 5 mm on edge from the famous Weardale location of Heights mine.
