A classic, well-formed, individual 'flattened' cubo-octahedral Galena crystal from the famous Glücksbrunnen mine in the Altenkirchen District, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. This ancient lead mine closed in 1930 and the few really fine Galena crystals seen in other collections all appear to date to the late 19th or early 20th centuries. This one, from the superb German collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) is large thumbnail in size and is stunning. It does have a couple of edges with damage, probably from where it was originally collected, but the quality of the other faces is amazing, and its form, for Galena, is just so unusual. A beautiful type of crystallization for Galena.
