Classic crystallized Friedelite from the famous Sterling Hill mine, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA. and with superb provenance to 1180 Pillar, 700' Level. This large miniature specimen consists of dark and light Franklinite-Calcite matrix partly intergrown with cream coloured Friedelite, but the real star quality is two surfaces richly coated in perfectly formed, textbook, triangular-shaped microcrystals of Friedelite. It is difficult to describe how perfect these crystals are, as they are small, but their form is easily visible under x20 magnification and they glisten on the surface. One area of Friedelite crystals on the rear of the specimen has been 'darkened' by grease from previous use of mineral tack, but there might be the possibility that this grease can be chemically removed. An absolutely superb Sterling Hill rarity and comes with a multitude of old labels showing that it was first purchased in 1980.
