The intensity of colour of the newly discovered green Fluorite from Milpo mine in the remote Atacocha mining district in Peru is remarkable. This miniature specimen presents a small aggregate of aligned cubo-octahedral crystals. These crystals are nicely formed, and quite large at 2.8 cm across, but their surfaces are quite abraded and pitted, with edge-wear too. Technically speaking, these Fluorite crystals form a floater, as there are no obvious broken surfaces - the base being coated in a layer of Pyrite. With backlighting, the internal brightness of the Fluorite shines through to produce a really lovely display. The base of these crystals is coated in a fine layer of small (1 to 2 mm) pyritohedron Pyrite crystals, which is the classic association from this deposit.
