This superb large miniature Fluorite specimen displays wonderful large cubo-octahedral crystals of an usually rich and vibrant green colour. It is from a recent discovery at Milpo mine in the remote Atacocha mining district in Peru where an exceptional shade of green Fluorite is known to occur. In some respects it is similar to the classic South African material from Riemvasmaak, but instead in mostly cubo-octahedral crystals, and often accompanied with Pyrite. The crystals in this specimen form a stepped arrangement with cubo-octahedral crystals rising out from the sides of each other. These crystals exceptionally reach 2.5 cm across and despite having naturally heavily etched rough matt faces, they are in fine condition with just slight contact damage on a few corners. Their green colour is nice, but with backlighting this specimen erupts into life, with a fine intensity few world Fluorites can match. Interestingly, the green colour intensifies through the centre of the specimen and fades along the thinner crystal edges. The base of the specimen is coated in a fine layer of small (1 to 2 mm) pyritohedron Pyrite crystals. A wonderfully intense green Fluorite from this new discovery.
