A big and dramatic classic from Blackdene mine in Weardale. The association of large cubo-octahedral Galena crystals on large purple Fluorite cubes is instantly recognizable as from Blackdene mine. Very large cabinet in size, this specimen is made up of a double-sided rib of pale purple cubic Fluorite crystals, reaching 2.8 cm on edge. Upon the Fluorite sit large bright metallic dark blue-grey cubo-octahedral Galena crystals - the largest reaching 4 cm across with several others to 3 cm across. These crystals are not only extremely large, but are very well formed too. Minor fine-grained Calcite coats a small number of the Fluorite crystals. There is minor scuffing to some of the Fluorite crystals around the edges of the specimen, but this is a statement piece - big, showy, and a British classic. Ex George Farr collection.
