The intensity in colour of this Fluorite specimen from the famous Segen Gottes Erbstolln mine (Segen Gottes mine) at Gersdorf in the Freiberg District of Saxony is simply staggering. Fluorite specimens from this ancient mine, which was first worked during the 13th century and which closed in 1896, are very rare and usually do not exhibit such a rich amber colour. At small cabinet size this is also a quite significant size for this mine which is now a tourist attraction. There is some damage to be seen, in the form of internal fracturing, and internal cleavage planes can be seen cutting across the corners of a couple of Fluorite crystals, but the crystals themselves are intact, large, and present very well. A classic from the Freiberg District.
