This large miniature Fluorite-Quartz combination specimen is from Yaogangxian mine in Hunan Province, one of the most prolific mineral producing localities in the whole of China. It has produced many and varied colours and forms of Fluorite with this piece presenting quite unusual translucent to opaque pale purple octahedral crystals perched upon white Quartz with colourless 'Rock Crystal' terminations. The Fluorite crystals are translucent internally, but are masked by an opaque outer layer. The main Fluorite crystal reaches 1.3 cm across and is doubly-terminated, but one termination is complicated by multiple stepped surfaces and the other pyramidal point looks to be very slightly bruised. It is, nevertheless, an unusual habit of Fluorite from this famous Chinese mine. Ex Arvid Pasto Collection.
