A somewhat rugged looking combination of opaque, mottled purple octahedral Fluorite crystals perched on the side of a well terminated, smoky Quartz crystal from Kara-Oba in the Betpakdala Desert of Karagandy Province, Kazakhstan. I can’t really say the Fluorite or Quartz are particularly aesthetic, but they do form an interesting and nice association. Rather unexpectedly from its general outer appearance, the Quartz is remarkably gemmy. A slender, sharply terminated smoky Quartz crystal branches outwards from the base where there is also a tiny cluster of metallic golden cubic crystals of Pyrite. The Fluorite octahedra are developed to 1.5 cm on edge.
