Colour-zoned cubic Fluorite crystals to 1.5 cm on edge form an intergrown cluster on a flat bed of stubby, translucent milky-white Quartz crystals from the Yaogangxian mine in Hunan Province, China. The cluster is made up of interpenetrant twins and is interesting in that different pairs intersect at quite different angles. These crystals have deep purple zoning with lighter purple interiors and randomly mottled face centres, displaying their zoning to full advantage when back-lit. Four smaller Fluorite cubes sit separately on the matrix and are equally well-zoned but lacking the mottled central zone. Several of the crystals show damage to their edges, but this does not overly detract from what is a striking Fluorite from the Yaogangxian mine.
