Fluorite from the Josefa-Veneros vein, close to the north western coastline of Spain is a true classic and this sensational Fluorite with Calcite more than proves the point! This is a Fluorite of both quality and quantity, measuring-in at an impressive 11.7 x 9.0 x 7.0 cm it is a large cabinet specimen which together with its breathtaking colours, transparency and crystal forms makes it a genuine showstopper. Comprising of at least three interpenetrating crystals, each is a gemmy sapphire blue with all edges modified to the rhombic dodecahedron (forming the dual polyhedron of the cuboctahedron). In simpler, more visual terms, the latter manifests as a 45 degree bevel on every edge of the cube. These are rough and pitted and of a captivating mauve-lilac forming a striking contrast to the mirror-smooth cube faces. Just adding to the overall aesthetic is a milky white Calcite crystal. If ever you were to look out for a magnificent Fluorite from this locality, then this could just be the one! The complete locality name is the Josefa-Veneros vein (Josefa-Veneros Norte vein), Coroña de Arriba-La Collada, La Collada mining area, Siero, Asturias, Spain.
