The province of Asturias in northern Spain is well-known for Fluorite, both as industrial-grade fluorspar, but also to mineral collectors as superb crystallized mineral specimens. Of all the individual discoveries, those from the Josefa-Veneros Vein, and in particular those from the 75 level at Collada mine are sheer perfection. Just feast your eyes on this majestic specimen and try not to get excited. This habit of Fluorite - with prominent crazed bevelled edged - is not necessarily unique, but is exceptionally rare, and especially so in such large well-formed crystals. But what is unique is the colour combination seen in these Josefa-Veneros Vein specimens, with blue-purple interiors, and deep purple edges. Add to this a contrasting white, scalenohedral Calcite crystal and the result is dreamy. These absolutely stunning Fluorite crystals get even better with directional backlighting, producing what to me is one of the wonders of the mineralogical world. This stunning large cabinet-sized display specimen is accompanied by its own custom-made acryllic display stand.
