Despite being a well-known Fluorite producer it is not very often that we come across Fluorite crystals from Coalcleugh mine in West Allendale, Northumberland. This miniature specimen presents the classic paler purple colour with intensively frosted interiors to the faces and in this case localized orange iron-staining too. The crystals, which are slightly flattened cubes, reach 4.4 x 3.6 cm on their largest face and show light chipping along their edges and to a few corners, but this is a rare older specimen, collected from Barneycraig Vein in 1950. It exhibits strong bright violet fluorescence under long wave UV light as one would expect for this area. Ex Arthur Scoble Collection (1910-1986), with his characteristic typed label affixed to the back of the specimen. Ex Dr Stephen Crook Collection.
