Renowned the world over for its diversity of mineral species, particularly supergene secondary species, to German collectors Clara mine is also famous for magnificent large crystals of Baryte and Fluorite. Its Fluorite occurs in a variety of colours, although generally not in especially vibrant tones. However, as demonstrated here, individual crystals can attain an impressive size. Dominated by a 7.8 x 6.0 x 5.7 cm main cubic crystal, this cabinet-sized display piece naturally sits well for display. With pale purple undertones, the main faces and edges of the Fluorite crystals are in very fine condition with the only significant damage of note restricted to the lowermost edges, or rear of the specimen. All of the Fluorite crystal faces are naturally slightly etched, giving a slightly frosted, to silky appearance, but these faces show stepped surfaces and unusual 'X'-like patterns. The back of the specimen is a core of sugary, crystallized Quartz, which reveals linear, bladed holes, indicative of dissolved Baryte crystals. Ex Hettrich Collection, this is a really prominent group of large Fluorite crystals from this classic German locality.
