This is a very large and intensely coloured Fluorite from a lesser-known locality in New Mexico - the Galena King mine. This mine, as the name suggests, was a lead mine but during the 1940s an unsuccessful attempt was made to mine Fluorite. The Fluorite varies in colour with the intense deep blue variety being the most sought after. This cabinet specimen of fairly pure Fluorite displays patches of superb intense blue Fluorite along its base underneath naturally etched white Fluorite on the surface. The crystals are cubes and in some places the crystals appear to be hollow. Nowhere is this Fluorite gemmy, but its main interest comes from its beautiful and unusual colour, and rarity. Ex Arvid Pasto collection.
