A beautiful golden yellow, part crystal of Hilton mine Fluorite with a rare lilac tint across the cleaved base of the specimen. This ex. matrix miniature is an interpenetrant twin composed of greatly differing sized crystals; one to 3.4 cm on edge and one to 1.6 cm. Both prisms are pleasingly gemmy, their clarity allowing the whole of the prism to be looked through from front to back. Most of the smaller prism is complete, whereas only three partial sides of the large prism are present. Hilton mine is in Scordale in eastern Cumbria, a mine adjacent to the lower contact of the Whin Sill, a major intrusive feature across this part of Northern England. Under LWUV the whole specimen fluoresces a fairly uniform deep lilac. The combination of this miniature’s golden yellow colour, its transparency, a purple zoned band close to the prism edges and the purple cleaved surface, all make this a most desirable specimen.
