For a country so embedded in the tradition of gem mining and latterly alpine-type vein mineralization, the appearance of very large, showy, colourful crystallized Fluorite in 'beds' and veins from Pakistan came as quite a surprise to many. The discoveries at Koh-i-Maran, in Kalat District, Balochistan, were made during the mid 2010s and the characteristic dark blue, large, complex stepped crystals have much in common with the Weißeck area finds in the mountains of Austria. This large, cabinet-sized thin flat plate of Fluorite from Koh-i-Maran is actually extremely fine, featuring excellent, sharp-edged, stepped cubic crystals intergrown, and reaching 3.5 cm on edge, but with the largest crystal actually reaching over 4 cm across. On the display surface only one crystal corner has a very slight chip, otherwise it is perfect and with backlighting it presents a quite distinctive blue-grey colour with marked light and dark zonation.
