This is the famous Honigspat, or Honey Spar, an amber-coloured variety of Fluorite found in the Wölsendorf Fluorite Mining District, Bavaria, Germany. This cabinet-sized specimen from Marienschacht mine is richly covered in deep orange translucent cubic crystals of Fluorite, individually reaching a significant 3.6 cm on edge. The specimen is not without damage, with some chipping along crystal edges and slight pitting to crystal faces, but it is its superb colour which demands attention. Shine a strong light through from behind and the fiery orange colour lights up from within. Beneath the large orange crystals the matrix is massive white and purple Fluorite, the orange colour coming from the 0.8 to 1 cm upper layer of the crystals. A lovely, distinctly coloured classic German Fluorite.
