It is rare that a thumbnail Fluorite specimen can command such character, but this cluster of amber-coloured cubes perched upon a thin sliver of Quartz matrix from Vensat, in Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France does just that. This is largely due to the exceptionally gemminess, razor sharp edges and intense saturation in colour of its crystals. At 9.0 x 7.5 x 6.5 mm, the most perfect of crystals, perched at one end, is not large by any stretch, but it is a sheer delight. The larger crystal in the centre of the piece, at 1.1 cm across, is also beautifully sharp and colourful, but does have one corner missing. However, overall, this is a really charming thumbnail. Although its background is not recorded its appearance suggests that it is from the 2013 finds at Côte Rousse quarry.
