A fine large miniature green Fluorite from Redburn (Fluorspar) mine, Rookhope, County Durham, England. Gemmy to translucent, lustrous peppermint sea green Fluorite crystals measuring to 2 cm are partly overgrown by a delicate sugary frosting of Quartz micro-crystals. It's a delightful specimen and a lovey example of Fluorite very seldom seen from Redburn mine, despite it being a Fluorspar mine! We use the term Fluorspar to indicate the commercial product of Fluorite. Redburn mine closed in 1981 and it tends to be the jackstraw Cerussite we now see in collections rather than Fluorite. The colour is most attractive, making this a specimen which will stand out from surrounding Weardale specimens in a display.
