This choice miniature gemmy blue Fluorite is from the Emilio mine by the village of Loro'e in the Colunga mining district of north-western Spain. This entire area along the north Spanish coast is world famous for its spectacular Fluorite specimens. The Emilio mine which dates back to around 1947 when the Obdulia Vein was discovered, the vein courses for some 500 m with an average width of 1.5 m. Specimen grade Fluorite has been produced since the early 1980s and this particular specimen is a little beauty! One 2.8 x 2.6 x 2.2 cm gemmy cubic Fluorite crystal dominates several other smaller yet similar crystals which surround and partly penetrate it. All crystals are transparent tending to gemmy with translucent to opaque milky white cores. The Fluorite is a light lavender blue with darkened edges with the crystal group is perched jauntily on a hard grey limestone matrix. A sublime Fluorite from the Emilio mine, Spain.
