Milpo mine in the remote Atacocha mining district in Peru has recently come to the attention of mineral collectors because of its beautiful vibrant green Fluorite crystals. This super miniature specimen is pure Fluorite, displaying the now classic cubo-octahedral form and intense green colour. As is common with specimens from Milpo mine, the crystals are intergrown in stepped patterns. Here the cubo-octahedral form is perfectly developed, with the largest crystal reaching 3 cm across. Sitting naturally for display, the base and lower edges are cleaved, or broken surfaces, but the cubo-octahedral crystals sit on top and are in excellent condition. The crystal faces are not all glassy, but are more frosted in appearance, but with backlighting the specimen comes alive with stunning colour. One side of the specimen is inclusion rich, meaning that the internal colour is naturally darker and loses some of the vibrancy during backlighting, but it is still delightful.
