Among all the famous Fluorite mines throughout Weardale in County Durham, Blackdene mine is famed for its superb purple Fluorite and this specimen is an excellent example. Sharp lustrous glassy cubic crystals to 1 cm on edge cover the surface of a mixed milky-white Fluorite and Quartz matrix. The Fluorite ranges from pale to quite intense purple-lilac and has a few small crystals of brassy Chalcopyrite perched here and there. A showy purple Fluorite from Blackdene mine in Weardale.
