This large cabinet-sized Burtree Pasture mine Fluorite from Cowshill in Weardale, Co. Durham displays exceptional glossiness. The crystals, which reach 3 cm across at their widest, are not all perfect with several showing contact damage but for crystals that show internal frosting externally they are phenomenally glassy. Most are above 2 cm in size. The colour of the crystals is unusual, ranging from a pale sea-green with lilac tints. The hard dark green siliceous matrix contains numerous cracks, but they all appear to be strongly bonded.
