This good-sized cabinet specimen from Hilton mine in Scordale, near to the town of Appleyby in eastern Cumbria, is covered with pale amber to butterscotch-lemon Fluorite cubes to around 1.8 cm on edge. The cubic crystals range from transparent to frosted, with the majority being semi-transparent to translucent. Yellow Fluorite from this classic Northern England locality come is a wide range of yellow shades and this is a beautiful example, showing subtle colour variations which grade from more acidic lemon at end to orange-tinted lemon at the opposite end. A good brief account of this mine can be found in the Mineralogical Record supplement issue 'Classic Minerals of Northern England' (January-February 2010). A great Hilton Fluorite which will look fabulous when displayed.
