This quite elongated cabinet-sized Fluorite from West Pasture mine near Stanhope, Weardale presents extremely well, particularly in a vertical position. Comprising the classic West Pasture pale apple-green colour but with pale purple undertones in daylight, the cubic crystals on the display surface are virtually all sharp and damage free and reach 2 cm on edge, averaging about 1.6 cm. The crystals display glassy, gemmy corners and some edges, but are mostly slightly frosted/etched in the central part of the faces. The fluorite is on a robust, typical dark grey limestone matrix with minor spots of Galena underneath the Fluorite. This is a really top quality West Pasture mine Fluorite, significantly higher quality than most and retaining its distinctive much loved colour. Most of this material came from short-lived collecting operations during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
