This fine cabinet specimen of leaf green Fluorite crystals intermixed with naturally etched Galena crystals is from Heights mine, one of the most famous localities in Weardale. The cubic crystals are almost entirely interpenetrant twins and measure up to 2 cm on edge. They are essentially translucent, but tend to have transparent edges with a certain amount of zoning, this occurring as differing shades of green to almost colourless. The Galena crystals a tarnished to metallic mid-grey and adopt various combinations of the cube and octahedron. The Fluorite exhibits a weak to mild daylight fluorescence, while under LWUV fluoresces bright lavender white.
