This lovely example of teal blue Fluorapatite crystals on pegmatite is from the little known Tregarden quarry north of the village of Luxulyan, between St. Austell and Lostwithiel. Tregarden is also known as Golden Point quarry. Homing in on Tregarden’s national grid reference indicates it is within the boundary of the old Luxulyan quarry, but not in its now water-filled, deeper workings. It has to be said, the several quarries close to Luxulyan village, all of which produced excellent specimens of Fluorapatite, appear to have become somewhat confused over time, but there is no doubt they were all in this very focused area. An approximately 2.3 x 1 cm area is covered in gemmy, light teal blue hexagonal crystals of Fluorapatite of 3 to 5 mm across, covering a coarsely crystallised pegmatite matrix of crystallised Quartz and Feldspar, dusted with druses of deep tan Gilbertite hydro-mica, a variety of Muscovite.
